BOLIVIAN FOLKLORE AND TRADITION

Colorful and diverse, modern day Bolivian tradition is a blend of both Catholic liturgy with indigenous rituals.  Here, folklore is commonly known to be embodied in dance and music in many of the processions such as the Carnaval in Oruro.  However, it is not uncommon, for example, on Día de Reyes (Three King’s Day) to find someone coming out of a church where they just had their baby Jesus figurine blessed with holy water and head to a kallawaya or curandero (healer) to finish the ritual; or during the festivity of Ñatitas, to see hundreds of skulls being blessed by a priest.
